POMOLAND: Smoking Gun Origami by kirui POMOLAND: Smoking Gun Origami by kirui
Thought I'd post this today in honor of the Beijing Olympic's stunningly spectacular opening ceremony. I usually have a lot of issues with most of Zhang Yi Mou's movies (the only exception being Hero), but with his cinematography, I have no qualms. That man outdid himself with the performances. They were all visually arresting and I swear I spent half the time subconsciously trying not to just scoot forward until I was sitting only half a foot away from my television screen. LOL

This was honestly one of the most epic things I've seen in a while. Despite all the tension and human rights idiocy, I don't think anybody can honestly say that the opening ceremony wasn't a success.

(So, when I say "idiocy," what I mean is: srsly... why give China the Olympics ten years ago only to treat it no better than a soapbox? It's fucking disrespectful to the athletes and the countries they represent. Yes, China doesn't have the best civil rights track record; in fact it has one of the worst. But. YOU'RE DOING IT WRONG. GTFO my Olympics already! DX /rant).

About this piece: Another pic of one of my OCs, Chastity H. Sullivan... or better known as "Heihei." LOLOL His part is on the wrong side, but that's because I'd flipped the picture in the middle and forgot about it until after I finished coloring the whole thing. OTL

*reads note* You mean this isn't... Hibari? o____o I thought you were going to apply that origami thing on your Hibari. But it's pretty and oriental-feeling nevertheless. Guns in sumi-e stye lol.

I intend to apply the origami things to the Hibari pic too! Just... later, because Hibari's still. Um. Sitting half finished. In a folder. While I wallow in the Olympics. OTL

OMG, the opening ceremony was absolutely beautiful. The number of participants was awe inspiring, and the attention to detail and also the meaning behind everything was like intelligent design. AWESOME!!!

LOLOL I love how there was a thread of underlying humor--人工有的, 为设么不用?--which basically translates to: We have the manpower, why not use it? XDDD

They used it alright. China can do it bigger and better than anyone, from what I saw.

I GET BORED EASILY. If it's not an epic war film, then srs dramaz films don't interest me. And I've watched enough Cultural Revolution documentaries as a kid to know that it'll be as depressing as hell.

I DON'T LIKE ANGST. :|

It was absolutely spectacular! The only downside was that NBC (the channel that had exclusive broadcasting rights for the Games in the US) only showed highlights. I for one, would have liked to watch the entire thing. |D

That was my thought too... What I wouldn't give to be able to go there just for the opening ceremony!

LOL, I feel bad for London 2012... speaking in purely artistic terms, Beijin 2008 really is kind of a tough act to follow. ^^;
